Nadia Cole Indicted in International Kidnapping Case

Updated August 18, 2024; Posted August 18, 2024

The disappearance of Nadia Cole

Nadia Cole, a 21 year old graduate from Washington State University, has been indicted in a case of international kidnapping out of Pullman.

Cole, as well as her fiance, Aaron Aung, and Aaron’s father, Jamies Aung, have been named in the unsealed indictment.

On May 29, 2024, Nadia disappeared after leaving Seattle-Tacoma International Airport while preparing to board a flight to Italy with her mother.

Court documents allege that Nadia Cole went with Aaron Aung to Mexico with Aung’s daughter in June 2024, and remained there until July 4, 2024.

During that time Aaron’s father, Jaimes Aung, helped his son avoid law enforcement.

Aung’s two year old daughter was found with Aaron and Nadia near Santa Ana, Mexico in July.

The couple was turned over to US Customs and Border Protection, and the child was placed in the care of Arizona Child Protective Services.

Nadia Cole is scheduled to appear in court on September 6.

The Disappearance of Nadia Cole

Nadia Erika Cole is originally from Port Angeles, Washington. In November 2023, she got engaged to her fiancé, 21-year-old Aaron Aung of Moscow, Idaho.

In 2024, Nadia Cole graduated from Washington State University.

Disappearance

On the afternoon of May 29, 2024, Nadia Cole was last seen at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in SeaTac, Washington.

Nadia and her mother were preparing to board a flight for a three-week vacation to Italy that they had been planning for over a year to celebrate her recent graduation from Washington State University.

Nadia left her phone and carry on, a small backpack, with her mother at the gate while she went to use the restroom. At 3:08 pm, she was captured on security camera leaving the airport with a distressed expression.

Around 4:00 p.m, Nadia Cole was captured on security camera getting off a Link light rail streetcar from Sound Transit at Third Avenue and University Street in downtown Seattle. She was last seen walking toward the waterfront.

Nadia Cole hasn’t been seen or heard from since. Her parents filed a missing person’s report with the Port of Seattle Police Department.

Investigation

During the same time as Nadia’s disappearance, her fiance Aaron Aung had supposedly left with his 2-year-old daughter for a five-day fishing trip to Montana. When he did not return, his parents filed a missing person’s report with the Pullman Police Department.

On June 3, 2024, Aaron Aung was supposed to return his daughter for a custody exchange with the girl’s mother in Pullman, Washington, but that never happened. An arrest warrant was issued for Aaron for first-degree custodial interference.

Authorities believed Nadia Erika Cole’s disappearance may be connected to Aaron Aung, who is believed to be on the run with illegal custody of his daughter.
