Disappearance

On June 4, 2011, William Phillips was last seen being dropped off at his home, located in the 300 block of 5th Avenue North in Amory, Mississippi. He hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

William and his wife lived in separate households, but saw each other daily. She reported him missing after she didn’t hear from him that night.

William’s case is considered a homicide, though his body has never been found.

Investigation

In March 2019, a Monroe County grand jury indicted Jeffery Dewayne Kennedy with first degree murder charge in connection with William’s case. At the time of the indictment, Kennedy was serving a 10 year drug sentence.

The charge came after investigators interviewed a witness, Peggy Hall, who admitted she was at William’s home on the night he was taken from his home and stabbed to death.

She says Williams was killed over money, and that the murder took place in the woods. Authorities found the suspected murder weapon, a knife, though no DNA evidence was able to be collected from it.

On September 14, 2020, Kennedy pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with Williams’s case. He was subsequently sentenced to 20 years, with 10 years suspended and five years of post release supervision.
