Disappearance

On February 14, 2019, Tracy Day arrived at her mother’s house wearing clothes unsuitable for the cold weather.

Her sister dropped her off at the corner of Franklin Street and Ferry Way, and last saw her walking towards two men by the Heritage Coffee Store. Tracy hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

She was reported missing to the Juneau Police Department by her family on March 22, 2019.

Tracy is known to frequent the downtown area of Juneau and may have been staying on a boat in Aurora Harbor.

Investigation

At the time of her disappearance, Tracy was living in an apartment owned by the St. Vincent de Paul Society. On February 20, a staffer from St. Vincent de Paul called her father to say she hadn’t been seen in a while and hadn’t done her chores in weeks.

A search with airline providers and Alaska Marine Highway showed no records of Tracy leaving Juneau.

Tracy is being treated for bipolar and schizophrenia, but left her medications behind. According to her family, Tracy had mentioned she thought someone was after her, which they attributed to paranoia due to mental illness.

The Juneau Police Department received multiple tips about possibly sightings of Tracy as late as March of 2019, but none of the sightings could be confirmed.

In 2025, Tracy was declared legally dead after her daughter petitioned the court in hopes of getting answers from the Juneau Police Department about her mother’s case.
