Background
Originally from Champaign, Illinois, Sonie had moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia shortly before she disappeared.
Described as an exceptional student, Sonie kept in close contact with family and regularly attended church. Her loved ones say it’s uncharacteristic of her to go missing without being in contact with anyone.

Investigation
Sonie’s phone was turned off after leaving her sister’s house, and she did not have a car when she went missing.
About a month prior to her disappearance, Sonie was found beaten up in the back of someone’s truck in the woods near Riverdale, south of Atlanta.
Sonie’s sister told police she had been suffering from mental health issues, but the hospital she was taken to didn’t find anything wrong. According to authorities, Sonie had been in the woods for at least two days prior to being found.
Upon being released from the hospital, Sonie relocated to her sister’s home on Steelwater Road in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
In November 2021, Sonie’s father received a tip that Sonie had been spotted at a Boost Mobile store on 3rd Avenue South in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The sighting occurred in early September.
He spent five days in the Myrtle Beach area, handing out flyers, and spoke to four people who identified his daughter and said she was with two other people.
Myrtle Beach authorities have not been able to confirm the sighting.
“We unfortunately never had any evidence that she was actually in the city. As soon as we found out about it, we assigned an investigator as well as put out information and her photograph to the officers working in the area where she was believed to have been seen. But, we were never able to confirm any actual sighting or video of her being in our city,” Myrtle Beach police MCpl. Tom Vest told WMBF in 2022.
A private investigator working on Sonie’s case believes she may have been a victim of sex trafficking.
