Sheena Louise Gibbs was born on November 16, 1981 in Muscatine, Iowa. She grew up in rural Iowa and later moved to Chicago, Illinois where she graduated from The Graduate School at Northwestern University in Evanston.
Gibbs is a former home health aide and most recently worked at the University of Illinois Chicago where she performed COVID test scheduling. She is a cancer survivor and social justice activist.
At the time of her disappearance, Gibbs was living with her boyfriend in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Described as bubbly, upbeat, and outgoing, Gibbs loved to dance and was said to “meet no strangers” by family and friends.
Disappearance
On November 3, 2021, Sheena Gibbs made plans to travel from her home in Chicago to Davenport, Iowa to care for her hospitalized mother, whom she had Power of Attorney over regarding her healthcare. She told her aunt that she would be arriving the following day, November 4th.
On November 5, 2021, Gibbs’s last known location was near the corner of West Greenleaf Avenue and North Sheridan Road in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago.
On November 8, 2021, Gibbs’s last known contact was via a text message to a friend.
When family members tried to reach out to her all calls went straight to voicemail.
Sheena Gibbs never showed up to visit her hospitalized mother and hasn’t been heard from since.
Investigation
Sheena usually traveled to Iowa by bus, but there is no record of a bus ticket purchased in Gibbs’ name or any evidence she ever boarded a bus leaving Chicago, Illinois.
Authorities initially stated that Gibbs is a “habitual missing” case, which means she is reported missing often. Her case was subsequently re-classified as a “high risk” Missing Person, which means she may be at risk of injury or death.
