53 year old Scott “Scotty” Scarberry was last seen in Paw Paw, Kentucky on July 12, 2026. He disappeared after setting off on a trip to explore abandoned mines in Southwest Virginia.
Background
In September 2024, Scotty gained national attention after he and his dog, Creedy, survived Hurricane Helene while living aboard a sailboat near Tybee Island, Georgia. The pair washed ashore near U.S. Highway 80 during the storm.
Scotty later traveled to Kentucky where he was staying on his uncle’s property.
Disappearance
On July 12, 2026, Scott Scarberry was last seen in the Paw Paw Community of Pike County, Kentucky. He disappeared after telling family he was going to travel to Southwest Virginia to explore abandoned mines.
Scotty rides a green beach comber style bicycle, which has seen been found.
Scotty left behind his dog, Creedy, which loved ones say he wouldn’t have done if he had planned to be gone for any extended period of time.
Searches of an abandoned mine in the Paw Paw section of Buchanan County provided no further clues as to his whereabouts.

White male with brown hair and brown eyes. Scotty stands 6’1 tall and weighs 140-150 pounds.
