Updated January 28, 2024; Posted January 28, 2024

The disappearance of Sarm Heslop

Name: Sarm Joan Lillian Heslop
Age: 41 years old
Last seen: March 8, 2021
Location: Saint John, US Virgin Islands
Status: Still Missing

Case Information

41-year-old Sarm Heslop was last seen in Saint John, US Virgin Islands on March 8, 2021. The former UK flight attendant disappeared off a yacht while sailing with her American boyfriend.

Background

Sarm Joan Lillian Heslop was born on December 19, 1979 to parents Brenda Street and Peter Heslop. She is originally from Southampton, a port city in Hampshire, England.

Sarm was in a romantic relationship with 44-year-old Ryan Bane, a native of Michigan, whom she met through a dating app in July 2020. The couple lived on the Siren Song, a 47-foot long catamaran owned by Bane in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The catamaran also operated as a luxury yacht business available for private charters, where Heslop worked as a chef. She previously worked as a flight attendant for FlyBe in England prior to moving with Bane in 2021.

Disappearance

On March 7, 2021, Sarm Heslop had dinner with her boyfriend, Ryan Bane, at 420 To Center, a restaurant in Cruz Bay on the island of Saint John, US Virgin Islands.

Around 10:00 pm, the couple left the restaurant and supposedly took a dinghy to return to the Siren Song, the catamaran they lived on, which was moored off shore at Frank Bay.

Sarm hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

On March 8, 2021, Ryan Bane filed a missing persons report for Sarm with the Virgin Islands Police Department and Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment.

Investigation

Sarm Heslop’s cell phone, wallet, and passport were found on the Siren Song.

Authorities conducted a search of the island and its coastlin, but found no signs of Sarm. They claim that Bane denied them permission to search his catamaran and exercised his constitutional right to remain silent.

According to Ryan Bane, the couple watched a movie after their return to the catamaran before they went to bed that night. Around 2:00 am, he suddenly woke up when the anchor alarm went off, which sounds when movement is detected.

He claims Sarm was nowhere to be found on the catamaran.

At approximately 2:30 am he reported her disappearance to the Virgin Islands Police Department, who advised him to call the Coast Guard instead. He reported her missing to the Coast Guard at 11:45 am.

Whereabouts

The circumstances of Sarm Heslop’s disappearance remain unclear and her case is currently classified as missing. Her case remains unsolved.

In today’s world women to have serious background checks on anyone they intend to move in with.
Since St. John’s is a US held property why couldn’t they get a search warrant to search the catamaran?
