Case Information
46 year old Russell Burnett was last seen on February 21, 2017 in Franklin, Maine. He was last seen that morning leaving a neighbor’s residence on Eastbrook Road.
Background
In 2017, Russell Burnett was living with his dog at 323 Eastbrook Road in Franklin, Maine. He had struggled with substance abuse in the past, but was sober at the time of his disappearance.
One of his friends says Burnett had been acting a bit strange before he went missing, saying he was scared to be alone.
Both of his parents had cancer, and the anniversary of his 20’s year old son’s death was approaching. He may have been suffering from mental illness.
Disappearance
At approximately 7:00 am on February 21, 2017, Russell Burnett was last seen leaving his neighbor’s residence on Eastbook Road in Franklin, Maine. He had spent the previous night at his neighbor’s house along with his dog Bev.
His neighbor last saw Burnett and his dog walking through the woods in the direction of his house, which was about a half mile away.
Burnett had a doctor’s appointment scheduled that day, but when his ride came to pick him up at 10:00 am they discovered both he and his dog missing.
It appears as if he did return home after leaving his neighbor’s house, since his cell phone, phone charger, and jacket were found inside. But Russell and Bev were nowhere to be found.
After waiting a few days to see if he’d return home, his cousins reported him missing to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigation
Searches of the area with the help of helicopters turned up no clues as to Burnett’s whereabouts.
He did not have a bank account and left his cell phone behind at home, so there was no way to track him.
Two weeks after Burnett went missing, his dog Bev showed up in the front yard of his neighbor’s home. The dog appeared to be in good condition and well fed, indicating someone had been taking care of it.
Appearance
White male born on February 28, 1970. Russell has blonde hair, hazel eyes, stands 5’7 tall, and weighs 155 pounds.
He has tattoos on both arms, and the phrase “If found return to Hog Bay” on his calf.
