The remains of Kandi Gonzalez have been identified, according to Floyd County Coroner Greg Nelson.
The discovery came after loggers found a bone on April 27, 2022, near the Left Fork of Abbott, across a mountain from where Gonzalez was last seen. Subsequent searches of the area turned up more human remains.
Attempts to determine her cause of death have been inconclusive, though the coroner says the condition of her remains is consistent with death occurring shortly after her disappearance.
36 year old Gonzalez was last seen in Prestonsburg, Kentucky on June 1, 2021. She disappeared after wandering into the backyard of a property on Abbott Creek Road, in a visibly distressed and disoriented state, before running away into a creek.
Gonzalez disappeared without any personal belongings or her cell phone, wearing only a pink one-piece romper outfit and sandals.
On June 2, 2021, Gonzalez’s family filed a missing persons report with the Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post when they couldn’t contact her.
In 2009, Gonzalez graduated from Lexington Healing Arts Academy in Lexington, Kentucky with a Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork certification. In 2011, she graduated from Spencerian College with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.
At the time of her disappearance, Gonzalez worked as a self employed Licensed Massage Therapist. She lived with her boyfriend of two years, Jeff Blackburn, in a house in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. She leaves behind a young son.
