Skeletal remains found in Branson, Missouri have been positively identified as belonging to David Koenig.
Koenig, a 25 year old amateur MMA fighter, was last seen in Branson on February 8, 2020.
His remains were discovered on December 22 by a man searching for deer antlers near the 3700 block of Fall Creek Road.
Police searched the wooded area, and were able to recover most of the remains as well as several personal items.
“The examination of the remains conducted by a forensic pathologist determined that there was no trauma and that the death did not appear to be the result of foul play,” the police department stated in a news release.
David Koenig’s Disappearance
David Koenig, a 25 year old amateur MMA fighter, was last seen in Branson on February 8, 2020.
He disappeared after staying a couple nights at the Peach Tree Inn off Highway 76, and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
On the evening of February 7 he messaged a couple of friends on Facebook, saying he was in trouble and asking for help. Neither of his friends were able to come over and meet him at the time.
He sent the messages through Facebook because his phone, which he recently bought secondhand after losing his regular phone, could only connect to Wifi.
By the time his friends got the messages and responded, David had stopped messaging.
He was reported missing by his family in March 2020, and a joint missing persons investigation between the Branson Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol was launched.
