The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that remains found last month have been positively identified as belonging to Crystalyn Mobley.
25-year-old Mobley was last seen in Summerfield, Florida on October 16, 2022.
On October 17, 2022, Crystalyn’s vehicle, an older model Buick LaSabre, was found abandoned at the parking lot of the Post Office in Weirsdale, Florida, about seven miles away from Summerfield. A notice was placed on the vehicle, which was eventually towed back to Mobley’s residence.
Authorities believe Mobley may have ran out of gas on the day she disappeared and stopped at the post office. A search was conducted in and around the area where her vehicle was discovered, but no signs of Crystalyn were found.
On August 17, 2023, human remains were found by citizens changing a flat tire in the 12000 block of E. Highway 42.
Based on where the body was found, as well as evidentiary items on the scene, authorities believed the remains belong to Crystalyn. The remains were sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for identification.
No cause or manner of death has been released at this time. A memorial service for Crystalyn has been scheduled for October 15.
