Remains found in Bennettsville, South Carolina earlier this year have been positively identified as Lashaunda Spurlock.
42 year old Spurlock was last seen in Cheraw, South Carolina on April 29, 2024. She disappeared after getting into a red Kia Soul with two unidentified men. She has a learning disability and lived with her mother in Society Hill, South Carolina.
On April 23, 2026, human remains were found in a trash can at an apartment complex in Bennettsville and were turned over to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division for DNA testing. Clothing found at the scene matched what Lashaunda was last known to be wearing.
Following the discovery, authorities arrested Luke Douglas Jr. in connection with her disappearance and death.
Douglas was charged with desecration of human remains, and is believed to be the last person to have been with Lashaunda before she went missing on April 29, 2024.
According to police, Douglas admitted to concealing the victim’s remains in a storage area within the apartment complex where he lived before disposing of the body in the trash can where it was found. He reportedly disposed of the remains after being evicted.

“While this confirmation provides an answer to one of the many questions surrounding LaShaunda’s disappearance, we know this news also brings unimaginable heartbreak to those who love her,” said the sheriff’s office earlier today.
The investigation into her death remains ongoing. If you have any information regarding Lashaunda’s case, please contact the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office at (843) 623-2101, or Pee Dee Crime Stoppers at (888) 284-6372.
