The Disappearance of Starla Goings

On August 15, 2025, Starla Goings was last seen by her husband around midnight, leaving their home on Peninsula Point Road in Munising, Michigan.
Starla left in her 2019 orange Volkswagen Tuguan SUV, which was found a few miles away at the intersection of 16 Mile Lake Road and M-94.
At 6:30 pm on August 17, 2025, her adult children called the Michigan State Police for a welfare check after they learned no one had heard from her all weekend.
Investigation
On the evening of August 17, 2025, an Alger County sheriff’s deputy met with Starla’s husband at their residence to complete the welfare check.
After the welfare check, authorities found Starla’s vehicle parked in a roadside lot, 3.5 miles away from her home. The vehicle was collected by law enforcement for evidence processing.
According to the Sheriff, Starla’s husband was the last person to have seen her at their Peninsula Point home on August 15th. He says she left around midnight. Earlier that day the pair had attended the UP State Fair in Escanaba.
One local resident reported seeing her vehicle in the roadside lot on August 15th between 4:00-6:00 pm, though she may have possibly left it there after work in order to carpool with her husband to the fair.
The only thing we know for sure is the car was there [sometime between 4 and 6 p.m.] on Friday the 15th. It was seen by a resident who reported it to police.
Then we don’t arrive a scene until Sunday, and then the car was located down there.
How it got there, I don’t know, that’s what we know for sure. That’s why I’m asking if anyone has seen anything… please reach out to the sheriff’s office or Michigan State Police.
— Alger County Sheriff Todd Brock
The ACSO says it’s unclear whether Starla had an intended destination when she left home. “It is unclear whether she had an intended destination, how she may be traveling, or other circumstances surrounding her disappearance,” wrote the sheriff’s office.
Authorities are asking anyone in the area to check their outdoor cameras to see if they caught Starla’s vehicle or anything suspicious on August 15th.
Multiple search efforts have been conducted, with the help of the Michigan State Police and Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, but no further clues as to her whereabouts have been found.
