Case Information
30 year old Petra Muhammad was last seen at her residence in Highland Falls, New York on January 7, 2006. She hasn’t been seen since.
Background
Perta was born in Grenada and moved to Trinidad at age 14. When she was 24 she moved to the United States. She was a diagnostic imaging student at the State University of New York Orange and worked part time at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point as a cashier.
At the time of her disappearance, she was in the process of getting a divorce from her husband of four years, William Muhammad. The couple lived with their young son in a home owned by William’s parents in the 30 block of Schneider Avenue in Highland Falls, New York.
She told fellow students at State University that she had been threatened to death by her husband.
Four months prior to disappearing, she went to court to get a protection order from William. She told the judge he had hit her in the face and threatened to kill her, then locked her and their young son out of the house. He also disabled the phone so she couldn’t call for help. The order was granted.
Police were called to the residence once in regards to a domestic dispute, but no arrests were made.
Petra was about to sign a lease for an apartment at the time she went missing.
Disappearance
On January 7, 2006, Petra Muhammad was last seen by a relative in Highland Falls, New York. She paid her phone bill, went shopping with a friend, and was last seen returning to her home in the 30 block of Schneider Avenue.
Petra hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
She was reported missing by her aunt on February 2, 2006, after not hearing from her for several weeks. Loved ones say it’s uncharacteristic of her to leave without warning and be out of contact with family. They do not believe she would have willingly abandoned her son.
Investigation
There has been no activity on Petra’s cell phone or Social Security number since she went missing.
When questioned, Petra’s husband said he didn’t report her missing because she had left him for short periods of time in the past, and he assumed she had done so again.
He claims she took her belongings and moved out, possibly to New York City or Grenada. However, Petra’s identification, passport, and clothes were all left behind at home.
Police suspected foul play in Petra’s case from the beginning, so they searched the family’s home, camper, car, and pickup truck. They found a doll with a noose around it’s neck, and all the family photos had Petra’s face cut out of them, but they didn’t find any concrete evidence of foul play.
William has been uncooperative in the investigation, however police have not publicly named him a suspect.
After his wife disappeared, William moved back to New Jersey with their son. He maintains his innocence and says his wife moved back to New York or Grenada.
Appearance

Black female with black hair and brown eyes. Petra stands 5’7 tall and weighs 120-135 pounds. Her ears are pierced and she had long hair at the time of her disappearance.
