Disappearance
Onni Raassina was last seen arriving at the Salt Lake City International Airport on March 5, 2025. He had traveled from his home in Finland, with plans to visit Utah. Onni hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
He was believed to be traveling from the airport to the Moon Lake Area in Duchense County, Utah, though it’s unclear if he ever arrived at his destination.
He was reportedly driven out to the Moon Lake Lodge via a yellow cab, with hopes to go looking for treasure in the Uinta Mountains.
Oini’s family reported him missing on March 17, 2025, and has since traveled to Utah to assist in searches.
Investigation
Raassina’s phone did ping in the Moon Lake area, about 150 miles east of Salt Lake, though authorities were unable to find any additional clues as to his whereabouts.
“From what we’ve seen on the airport video, of the backpack he carried, he did not have the right equipment to be up in the Uintas” DSCO Capt. John Crowley added. Due to winter conditions, the campground in that area doesn’t open until later this spring.
“He read stories about Moon Lake, buried treasure at Moon Lake, and so he wanted to go up and see it”
In the summer, Moon Lake is accessible by a 35 mile hike from Mirror Lake Highway’s Highline trailhead, though State Route 150 is also still closed for the season.
