The disappearance of Nancy Troche-Garcia

Name: Nancy Troche-Garcia
Age: 28 years old
Last seen: May 20, 2018
Location: Asheboro, North Carolina
Status: Still Missing

Case Information

28-year-old Nancy Troche-Garcia was last seen in Asheboro, North Carolina on May 20, 2018. She disappeared after leaving behind her premature, 6-month-old daughter with her ex-boyfriend, the father of the child.

Background

Nancy Troche-Garcia is originally from Mexico and grew up in a family of 5 children.

In 2011, Troche-Garcia moved to the United States with a man to whom she was engaged to, but the marriage was short-lived. She later became a U.S. citizen and worked at a local furniture factory for 3 years.

In 2018, Nancy was living in an apartment in Asheboro, North Carolina. She was recently separated from her ex-boyfriend and father of their 6-month-old daughter who was born premature.

Disappearance

On May 19, 2018, Nancy Troche-Garcia attended a child’s birthday party with her daughter. Everything seemed normal and she was said to be having a good time, according to friends who were at the party.

On May 20, 2018, Nancy dropped her six-month old daughter with the child’s father, Nancy’s ex-boyfriend, at his residence on East Balfour Avenue in Asheboro, North Carolina.

Later that day, Nancy was seen in Asheboro, North Carolina when she visited her ex-boyfriend’s sister and asked her to help take care of the baby. She said that she needed to go to Mexico to visit her mother who was supposedly very sick. This is the last confirmed sighting of Nancy.

Nancy Troche-Garcia never made it to her family in Mexico and hasn’t been heard from since. Authorities later learned that her mother was not ill.

On May 23, 2018, police performed a welfare check at her apartment in Asheboro, but Nancy was nowhere to be found.

Investigation

Nancy Troche-Garcia last spoke with her mother a week before her disappearance, as she usually did on Saturdays. She sounded normal at the time and did not mention that she was coming to visit.

Troche-Garcia disappeared along with her vehicle, a burgundy 2001 Chevrolet Impala sedan with North Carolina license plates DFD-2191. There was no record of her boarding a flight to Mexico, nor of her vehicle crossing the border.

Phone records show that Troche-Garcia had made a few phone calls after her disappearance, including calls to an out-of-state number.

In January 2020, detectives gained access to Nancy’s Google account, which showed that she used Google Maps to get to a car dealership in Madison, North Carolina on the day she disappeared. Unfortunately that lead went cold, with nothing of evidentiary value being found at the dealership.

In January 2019, Nancy’s Google account was logged into at a location about 30 miles from her hometown in Mexico where her mother still lived. Detectives contacted authorities in Mexico to check out the location, but had no success.

Whereabouts

Police found no evidence for foul play in Nancy Troche-Garcia’s disappearance. A $7,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Nancy’s location.

The circumstances of Nancy Troche-Garcia’s disappearance remain unclear and her case is currently classified as missing. Her case remains unsolved.
