According to her family, Nanci had struggled with alcoholism in the past, but was reportedly clean and sober for over a year at the time of her disappearance. She had no history of leaving without warning.
Disappearance
On the morning of June 28, 2023, Nanci Britner picked up a box of food to deliver to her sister who lived in an efficiency apartment at the Relax Inn, a residential motel located at 2645 Valley Avenue in Winchester, Virginia.
Nanci was helping take care of her sister who was undergoing treatments for cancer. That afternoon she went to visit one of her daughters and her children who lived in the same building before returning to her sister’s room, around 6:00 pm.
At 11:00 pm, Nanci started to call around to find a ride to her own home on North Kent Street. She spoke with her fiance on the phone, who was working at a local 7-11, and also sent text messages to her niece.
Her sister had suggested she stay the night at the motel but Nanci was expecting a visit the next day from her adult son, who lived in Morgantown, West Virginia, and his children whom she hadn’t seen in nearly a year.
Around 11:30 pm Nanci’s sister fell asleep and locked the door to her room, while Nanci was still reportedly looking for a ride. Nanci never showed up to the meeting with her family the next day and hasn’t been heard from since.
Investigation
Authorities are unsure if Nanci Britner was picked up by someone she knew after leaving The Relax Inn. The motel did not have any camera footage from that night.
Nanci never answered her niece’s reply, and both of her prepaid cellular phones have been subsequently turned off. One of her cell phones last pinged to an undisclosed location in Frederick County, Virginia.
Whereabouts
The circumstances of Nanci Britner’s disappearance remain unclear and her case is currently classified as missing. Her case remains unsolved.

White female with brown hair and brown eyes. Nanci is 5’4 tall and weighs 110 pounds.
Distinctive Physical Features:
Nanci has multiple tattoos on her neck, feet and forearm, including a large black cross tattoo on her left shoulder. Her ears are pierced.
Clothing and accessories:
Nanci was last seen wearing a black sleeveless tank top, denim shorts and black and gold sandals. She usually wore multiple rings on her left hand. She was carrying a purple tagalong suitcase.
