Case Information
25 year old Manuel Chabarria was last seen in Arlington, Texas on March 31, 1997. He disappeared after attending a meeting at his place of employment.
Background
Manuel Chabarria was born on February 24, 1982, to parents Lydia and Manuel Chabarria Sr.
At the time of his disappearance, Manuel was living with a roommate in Artlington, Texas. His roommate told investigators Manuel had been drinking heavily and sleeping for long periods of time before he went missing.
Manuel’s mother noticed her son had been looking sick at the time, but when she asked him if he was using drugs he denied it. His parents say it’s uncharacteristic of him to go missing without warning.
Disappearance
At approximately 6:00 pm on March 31, 1997, Manuel Chabarria attended a meeting at Harrigan’s Restauraunt, his place of employment, in Arlington, Texas.
He left in his vehicle, a partially primed red-striped 1987 Honda Civic, and hasn’t been heard from since.
He was reported missing to the Arlington Police Department after his employer couldn’t contact him.
Investigation
All of Manuel’s personal belongings were left behind at his home.
On May 17, 1997, Manuel’s vehicle, a partially primed red-striped 1987 Honda Civic, was found in Culberson County, Texas.
His vehicle was found off of Farm Road 2119 on private property. Upon discovering the car, the property owner called it into the sheriff’s department.
The keys were in the ignition, the windows were rolled down, but there was no sign of Chabarria at the scene. A shotgun box was found in the back with shotgun shells scattered around, as well as a pack of cigarettes, an empty picture frame, and six empty bottles.
A search of the area with the help of a helicopter turned up no further clues as to his whereabouts.
Police traced the shotgun and found that it had been purchased at a Wal-Mart in Beford, Texas a few days after Manuel disappeared, however they were unable to determine the identity of the purchaser.
Manuel’s mother believes he may have driven out to that area to look for their former home in Pecos, however that claim has never been substantiated.
Appearance
White/Hispanic male born on February 24, 1982. Manuel has curly brown hair, brown eyes, stands 5’5 tall, and weighs 130 pounds. He has a scar on one of his shoulder blades from a biopsy.
