More than a month after he went missing from an assisted care facility in Greensboro, the search for 74 year old Larry Burton continues.

At 7:15 am on July 3, 2025, the facility called the Greensboro Police Department to report him missing. Larry’s direction of travel is unknown. He has diabetes, and is believed to be suffering from dementia.
Burton had been living in the assisted living facility for 8 days when he disappeared. He moved there after being released from Moses Cone Hospital.
Larry may be in the McConnell Rd and Banner Avenue area of Greensboro, as a search dog recently picked up his scent there.
The Greensboro Police Department is asking anyone who resides near Barber Park and the Gateway Gardens area to please check your properties and neighborhoods for Mr. Burton. We are increasingly concerned for his well being in these warm temperatures and with his medical needs.
Larry’s loved ones have set up a Facebook page to help organize searches and raise awareness about his disappearance.
If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Larry Burton please contact the Greensboro Police Department at (336) 373-2287, or Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers at (336) 373-1000.

Since Burton’s disappearance it was discovered that the care facility he was living at was not licensed by the North Carolina Division of Health Services Regulation.
On July 23, 2025, it was announced that the facility had been shut down by city and state officials.
“The Department may take action against a facility’s license for reasons pursuant to G.S. 131D- 2.7. Based on the law, the operation of an unlicensed adult care home or the prosecution of criminal charges does not impact the license or operations of other facilities licensed by the same individual. We cannot comment on possible or ongoing investigations.”
