Disappearance
On November 10, 2014, Kenneth Veach was last seen in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He was last heard from when he called his ex-girlfriend, telling her he was going out to find an “M” shaped cave he had encountered on a hike a few months prior. He said it would be a short, one or two night camping trip.
Kenneth hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
Veach described the “M” shaped cave as being in the Sheep Mountains, near the Nellis Air Force base. He said the cave made his body vibrate when he got close to it, and that he was originally so freaked out by it that he left and returned to his car before exploring further.
“I solo hike across mountain tops that most people wouldn’t dare go. I have been in more caves than I can count. I play with rattlesnakes for fun. But this one particular cave was beyond anything I had ever encountered.”
On October 18, 2014, Veach had gone out to try and find the cave again, but was unsuccessful. (video posted below)
On November 10, 2014, he set off on his third and final hike to find the cave. When he failed to return home after a few days, his ex-girlfriend reported him missing.
The “M” cave Veach was trying to reach is located in a very remote and challenging area, filled with old mine shafts used as chemical dump sites. He would have had to hike about 10 hours in order to reach the cave then return to his car.
Investigation
On November 22, 2014, Kenneth’s cell phone was found near an abandoned mine shaft in the Sheep Range. His vehicle, a white Honda CR-V, was found at the head of trail.
“We found his cell phone close to a very vertical old mine shaft and we can’t find another trail,” Red Rock Search & Rescue Commander Dave Cummings told News 3. “It doesn’t mean that he’s down the mine shaft, but we have tracked him as far as we can. We are having our other crews come in from the search areas.”
Searches of the area have turned up no further clues as to his whereabouts.
