Status: Still missing
Case Information
27 year old Kay-Alana Turner was last seen on March 10, 2023 in Tomball, Texas. She disappeared after running off into the woods following an encounter with police.
Background
Kay-Alana Turner was born on April 22, 1995, to parents Robby and Rosa Calhoun. She is a celebrated local musician in Beaumont, Texas.
She suffers from PTSD and was prescribed Zoloft and Ritalin, with her doctor upping her dosage just two weeks before she disappeared. Her family believes she had a bad reaction to the medication, which led to a manic episode.
Turner had no criminal record before the incident on the day she disappeared.
Disappearance
On the afternoon of March 9, 2023, Ring footage shows Kay-Alana Turner knocking on the door of a friends house in Silsbee, Texas, but not using the code to enter as she normally would.
The video shows her waiting for someone to answer the door before walking off while texting a friend, saying she was heading back home to sleep. However, Turner never arrived back home.
Turner’s boyfriend, James, and her best friend, Brittany, became concerned when she texted “no help” to Brittany without further explanation.
Another friend who lives in Austin received a call from Kay-Alana that day, saying she was heading over to visit him. Her phone was dying at the time, so he told her to write down his address. She got lost and confused on the way, thinking she had arrived in Austin but was actually in Harris County.
Kay-Alana began knocking on doors looking for her friend, before eventually falling asleep inside her car while parked in a stranger’s driveway.
On the morning of March 10, 2023, residents of Tomball found Kay-Alana sleeping in her car and called police when she reportedly refused to leave the property.
When police arrived to the scene at 5:30 am (located in the 18000 block of County Hills Drive), Kay-Alana tried to back out of the driveway, leading to police breaking her driver’s side window to try and stop her.
Kay-Alana then drove through several fences before getting her car stuck in a muddy field about a mile away.
Tracks suggest she ran on foot into the woods, crossing Spring Creek into Montgomery County. She took off her shoes near her car, which were later found full of glass from the broken car window.
Kay-Alana was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis at the time she disappeared, telling loved ones she hadn’t slept in two days since her medication was recently changed.
Authorities say Kay-Alana intentionally drove toward deputies while fleeing in her vehicle, and that she refused to talk with deputies. However, her family says she was in a manic episode at the time, and likely fled because she was afraid.
Because felony warrants were issued for evading in a motor vehicle and aggravated assault on a peace officer from the events that occurred on the day she disappeared, Kay-Alana was initially listed as a fugitive rather than missing person.
On March 24, 2023, it was confirmed that Kay-Alana had been placed back on Harris County’s official missing person list.
Investigation
Kay-Alana’s trail went cold at Decker Prairie Rosehill Road near Hwy 249, which crosses over into Montgomery County. It is unknown which way she went after leaving the woods.
It is thought that someone may have picked her up in a car, since authorities could not detect her heat signature in the woods.
Her phone was found near her abandoned vehicle, and her purse and personal belongings were all found left behind in the car.
Texas Equusearch helped her family search on the Saturday after she went missing, however once the Harris County Sheriff’s Department issued felony warrants because of Kay-Alana’s run in with their deputy they could no longer offer assistance.
A potential sighting of Kay-Alana on March 22, 2023 in Magnolia, Texas, was later confirmed not to be her.
Whereabouts
The location of Kay-Alana Turner remains unknown. Her case is currently classified as missing and remains unsolved.
Appearance
White female born on April 22, 1995 with brown hair and blue eyes. Kay-Alana stands 5’4 tall and weighs 124 pounds.
