Case Information
13 year old James Yoblonski went missing from his Reedsburg, Wisconsin home on June 12, 2023. He left in his family’s vehicle, and hasn’t been heard from since.
Disappearance
In the early morning hours of June 12, 2023, 13 year old James Yoblonski took his father’s cell phone and left his Reedsburg home.
Security footage shows the teen leaving home around midnight and walking across the street to where the family van was parked. He drove off about an hour later.
At 7:30 am on June 12, 2023, James’ father contacted the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office to report him missing.
Investigation
Around 4:45 am on June 12, 2023, the van James left in was found parked along the westbound lane of Highway 12, near Baraboo Bluffs, a couple miles away from the westernmost part of Devil’s Lake State Park.
His cell phone was found across the highway in the eastbound lanes, about 200 yards away from the van.
A makeshift camp made by James was found in the woods nearby. Several changes of clothes, as well as a phone charger and pillow were found at the campsite.
Despite extensive searches of the area from multiple agencies with the help of K9 units, no further clues as to James’ whereabouts have been found.
James’ father states that a handgun was missing from their home, but it has not been determined for certain that James is in possession of the weapon.
Searches of electric devices believed to have been used by James show two searches in early 2023 regarding how to travel out of state and being a minor on a plane.
One of the devices is owned by the Yoblonski family, and the other was a device issued to James by the Baraboo School District. Several searches were also made of a few different physical locations within the state of Wisconsin.
Authorities followed up with searches of those areas, but found no evidence that James was ever at these locations after his disappearance.
Police state James had a special interest in becoming a survivalist. Sauk County Sheriff Lt. Steve Schram told WiscNews that James had two survival guidebooks with him when he left home.
In August 2023, James’ father passed a polygraph test given by the FBI regarding his son’s disappearance.
The Sheriff says the boy was reported missing this morning. The family van was found this morning on the westbound lanes. They searched the woods on that side this morning. The search happening on Highway 12 between Baraoo and Sauk City.
