Kayla Atwood was last seen in Pensacola, Florida on January 3, 2024. She dropped her children off at school that morning, but never returned to pick them up.
According to the arrest report, Atwood was picked up at home that afternoon in a truck that matches the description of one owned by Fountain.
The report also states Fountain asked to see her neighbor’s surveillance video on the afternoon of January 3, and authorities say a large number of files were deleted.
Update: Authorities found Kayla’s remains in a shallow grave near the intersection of Fairfield Drive and Crow Road in Escambia County on Thursday evening.
Fountain was taken into custody on Tuesday on a charge of tampering with evidence. He was released Thursday on a $50,000 bond, and taken back into custody and charged with homicide early Friday morning. He is currently being held without bond.
The Disappearance of Kayla Atwood
32 year old Kayla Atwood was last seen in Pensacola, Florida on January 3, 2024.
She dropped her children off at school that morning in the 500 block of Fairfield Drive, but never returned to pick them up.
Kayla was last seen getting into a yellow Penske box truck with a white sign on the passenger door in the 2300 block of West Belmont Street (pictured below).
She was reported missing to the Pensacola Police Department on January 5, 2024.
Kayla is usually active on social media, but there has been no activity on her accounts since she went missing.
None of her family members have been able to contact her. She has four children, and her family says she wouldn’t just leave without contacting anyone.
On January 9, 2024, Kayla’s ex boyfriend, Mikhail Fountain, was taken into custody in connection with her disappearance.
Investigators found that the driver of the Penske truck did drop Kayla off at home around 2:30 pm on January 3. She was then picked up by someone in a truck matching the description of one owned by Fountain.
Fountain spoke to Kayla’s neighbors around 4:30 pm and asked to view their surveillance footage. After authorities gained access to those filed they realized a large number of them had been deleted.
Authorities have been searching Fountain’s home and analyzing cell phone records, but have yet to locate Kayla.
Fountain is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.
