Case Information
16 year old Devin Bond got out of bed and walked out of his Murfreesboro, Tennessee home on March 31, 2017. He has not been seen or heard from since.
Disappearance
In the early morning hours of March 31, 2017, Devin got out of bed and walked out of his home. Before leaving, Devin stuffed his bed with sheets and pillows, to make it look as if he was still there.
Devin’s mother left for work as usual that morning, but got a call from Devin’s father at 10:30 am stating that Devin was was missing. That evening his parents filed a missing person’s report with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. The family says everything appeared normal, and Devin had shown no signs of wanting to leave home.
On April 1 Devin’s mother called Devin’s girlfriend and learned that they had broken up the day before he went missing. The girlfriend told Devin’s mother that he seemed “kind of” upset after she broke up with him at 7:30 pm.
Detectives spoke with Devin’s ex, and stated she seemed confused and bewildered by the situation, adding that she had no clue where he could have gone, and that he never indicated a desire to leave.
Searches turned up some cryptic clues, including a paper in Devin’s room which appeared to have “730” written on it. The family became more distressed when they realized a .45 caliber handgun was missing from Devin’s fathers closet, and that it appeared as if Devin had taken some clothing and other personal items with him.
Surveillance video from a neighbor reportedly shows the Bond’s porch light being switched on and off at approximately 3:30 am the night Devin disappeared.
At 4:50 am Devin’s phone pinged for the last time near the Veteran’s Parkway, about five miles away from the Bonds’ home. During that time a tipster reported a possible sighting of Devin, stating they saw a teenager walking along that road who matched Devin’s description. He was never seen or heard from again.
Devin’s mother and investigators believe Devin left on his own. Surveillance footage doesn’t show anyone picking him up, and based on his cell phone activity they believe he walked to his last known location rather than drove.
On the day Devin was reported missing, The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office used K9s around the Bond family’s home. The following day, a more extensive search was conducted, including the use of more K9s, a helicopter, and a full aerial search off Barfield-Crescent Road, the area where Devin’s cell phone pinged for the last time.
November 2019: Devin’s Remains Identified
In November of 2019 the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office positively identified the remains of Devin Bond. His remains were found in the Barfield area of Rutherford County, near where he was last seen.
The discovery came after a renewed search by officers in a 1,000 acre area where Devin’s cell phone last pinged near Barfield-Crescent Road.
The Rutherford County Sheriff believes no foul play was involved in Devin’s death.
