Disappearance
On the morning of October 2, 2014, Daryl Smith spoke with his employer on the phone, who told him he didn’t have to come in to work that day.
According to his family, Daryl left home after that call to go do a job for someone else. He hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
Cell phone records show that Daryl traveled north along Interstate 77 from Dunbar to the area of Edens Fork Road in Charleston, West Virginia. There’s no record of his phone being used since.
On October 7, 2014, his family reported him missing to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
“It’s not like Daryl to be missing. Daryl has a lot of really good friends and a really close family that love him dearly,” Gary Kevin Smith, Daryl’s brother, told WSAZ. “We just want him home.”
Investigation
On October 28, 2014, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office announced that Daryl’s case was being investigated as a homicide.
Numerous search warrants have been executed and evidence has been collected. Authorities do have a person of interest in Daryl’s case, though no further details have been released.
Appearance
Black male born on January 11, 1968. Daryl has black hair, brown eyes, stands 5’11-6’1 tall, and weighs 210-220 pounds. His head was shaved at the time of his disappearance.
He has a tattoo of the grim reaper on his upper left arm, and a tattoo of the Capricorn zodiac symbol on his upper right arm.
Clothing & Accessories:
Daryl was last seen wearing a Carhart coat, light blue jeans, and light colored boots.
