Case Information
22 year old Chelsea Cobo was last seen in Brooklyn, New York on May 7, 2016. She was last seen near the La Floridita Restaurant and Club in Sunset Park with an unknown male.
Background
Chelsea Cobo was born on November 8, 1993. In 1994, she began living with her aunt Rose who legally adopted her at age 7, as her parents suffered from mental illness and were unable to care for her.
At age 21, Chelsea gave birth to a son. She suffered from post-partum depression and started partying. She was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Her birth mother died in March 2016, which made her depression worse. In early April 2016, Chelsea checked herself into the psychiatric ward at Coney Island Hospital for 2 weeks.
During her hospital stay she became friends with her hospital roommate and one of the roommates’ male visitors named Justice. After being released from the hospital, she started hanging out with them.
After one outing with them on April 24, 2016, Chelsea came home bruised and disoriented. Her aunt took her to the hospital, where they determined Chelsea had been drugged, robbed, and sexually assaulted. She was unable to remember who she was with or where she had been.
According to Rose, the roommate and her friends got Chelsea hooked on opioids.
Between April 26-May 3, 2016, Chelsea was in the psychiatric ward at Maimonides.
Disappearance

On the morning of May 6, 2016, Chelsea Cobo’s aunt Rose took her to Lutheran Hospital to detox after she found Chelsea with a syringe in her hand. The hospital suggested transferring her to St. Johns Riverside Hospital in Yonkers.
Later that night, Rose got a call from one of Chelsea’s friends asking if she made it home from the hospital. Her aunt knows she’s supposed to be at the hospital, so she starts trying to contact her.
At 11:35 pm, Chelsea called Rose and they spoke for 13 minutes. She told Rose that her and her boyfriend, who she identifies as the male visitor from the hospital, are going to get “sushi and ice cream” and then she’d return home.
At 1:41 am, the visitor from the hospital, Justice, left Rose a voicemail, saying he dropped Chelsea off at 68th Street and Bay Parkway, a few blocks from her house. However, Chelsea never made it back home.
Around 1:45 am on May 7, 2016, Chelsea was last seen by the La Floridita Restaurant and Club in Sunset Park with an unidentified male. She hasn’t been seen since.
She was reported missing to the NYPD 66th Precinct by her aunt later that day.
Loved ones fear she was a victim of human trafficking and may be being held against her will. She is considered endangered due to her history of substance abuse and mental health issues.
Investigation
Surveillance video from the La Floridita Restaurant and Club was too grainy to determine if Chelsea ever went inside the restaurant.
On May 10, 2016, surveillance video shows a woman who looks like Chelsea leaving a house on 51st Street in Sunset Park. The home belongs to a friend of the man whose house they were all at doing drugs on the night of her disappearance.
The NYPD believes the video is of Chelsea, her aunt Rose does not. Authorities have never confirmed the sighting.
In January 2019, Rose confronted the man who lived at the house where Chelsea and another man were allegedly doing drugs the night she disappeared. He reportedly told her Chelsea overdosed and that the roommate asked him to help dispose of her body. Rose provided the recording of that conversation to the NYPD.
Appearance

White/Hispanic female with brown hair and brown eyes. Chelsea stands 5’2-5’3 tall and weighs 150-170 pounds. She has a lazy left eye and her nose is pierced.
Chelsea has “I fly with my own wings” tattooed on her left hip.
