Background
At the time of her disappearance, Candice Caffas was staying with her parents in the 9100 block of Mount Pleasant Road in Union Township, Pennsylvania.
Candice has Prader Will Syndrome, a genetic disorder which affects her appetite, growth, metabolism, behavior, and cognitive function. Due to the condition she has the mentality of a 10 – 12 year old.
She was a longtime client of The Arc of Crawford County, an organization that helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Candice had left home on a few occasions before, including two days prior to her disappearance when she escaped through her bedroom window, but she was never gone for long.
She is known to frequent places with water, and is almost always with someone.
Disappearance
At 3:10 am on July 16, 2022, Candice Caffas’ parents reported her missing from their home in the 9100 block of Mount Pleasant Road in Union Township, Pennsylvania.
She climbed out of the bathroom window sometime between 10:00pm – 3:00am, and was likely searching for food due to her medical condition.
Multiple people reported seeing Candice between 5:30 – 5:45 am that morning, walking on the railroad tracks on State Game Land #213 on Route 285 in Greenwood Township, Pennsylvania, heading towards Conneaut Lake.
Candice Caffas hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
Investigation
Candice had $13 with her when she went missing. Her ID and headband that she usually wore were left behind at home.
The area around Candice’s home, and all the way south to the Geneva swamp were searched extensively with the help of volunteers, K9 units, firefighters, as well as aviation and scuba teams, but no clues as to her whereabouts were found.
Large scale search efforts were halted by the Pennsylvania State Police on July 23, 2022, when police said all credible leads had been exhausted.
Family and loves ones continue to distribute flyers in hopes someone will come forward with information. Billboards with Candice’s information were placed on Interstate 79 and Interstate 90.
Whereabouts
The location of Candice Caffas, as well as the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, remains unknown. Her case is classified as endangered missing and remains unsolved.
There is a $12,500 reward for information leading to Candice’s location.
Appearance
Candice has blonde hair, green eyes, stands 4’9 tall, and weighs 95 pounds.
Distinctive Physical Features:
Candice has a scar on her right elbow and right shoulder from surgery. She wears blue metal frame glasses and is missing her front teeth.
Clothing and accessories:
Candice was last seen wearing a purple shirt, floral shorts, and purple/blue sneakers.
