Case Information

29-year-old Brandee Canipe was last seen in Mocksville, North Carolina on May 6, 2006. Her disappearance was not reported by her family until four years later as she had a habit of staying out-of-touch for long periods of time.

Background

Brandee Hope Canipe was born on December 14, 1976. She grew up in Shelby, North Carolina and is the eldest of four sisters.

Described as a free spirit, Brandee moved out of the family house at a young age. She had a habit of running off and staying out-of-touch for months at a time, but always reached out to her family after a while to let them know she was fine.

Brandee had been married twice and gave birth to three children, a son and two daughters. Her two daughters lived with their grandmother, while her son lived with his father.

At some point, Brandee moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where she stayed for a while before returning to North Carolina to live with a boyfriend in the Winston-Salem area.

In 2005, Brandee returned to live in Shelby, North Carolina to be closer to her two daughters. She worked at Rhythm and Cues, a little bar in Shelby.

In 2006, Brandee was a resident of Davie County, North Carolina. She lived in a house on US Route 158 in Mocksville, about an hour and half away from Shelby.

In early May, 2006, Brandee was last seen by her youngest sister, who was in fifth grade, when she dropped her off at a bus stop one morning. Everything seemed fine at the time.

On May 6, 2006, Brandee was last seen at her residence on US Route 158 in Mocksville, North Carolina.

Brandee never returned home and hasn’t been heard from since. Her family started to grow concerned when Brandee did not attend the funerals of multiple relatives who passed away throughout the years.

On April 19, 2010, one of her younger sisters filed a missing persons report with the Davie County Sheriff’s Office, nearly four years after Brandee Canipe was last seen.

Investigation

Authorities searched a residence on Highway 158 in Mocksville, North Carolina where Brandee previously lived with an ex-boyfriend, but no evidence of foul play was found. Two pieces of jewelry belonging to Brandee were recovered; a Louis Vuitton necklace and a wedding ring.

In 2006, Brandee was driving a four-door Buick sedan when she visited her family, but the car has never been recovered. Her social security number and bank accounts showed no activity since her disappearance.

Mysterious Lake House in Belews Creek

In 2006, Brandee invited her mother and two sisters to live with her and her boyfriend in a residence in Mocksville, North Carolina when they were facing financial hardships.

A couple months later, her mother returned to live in Shelby and Brandee broke up with her boyfriend. Subsequently, the three siblings moved to a house on a dirt road down by a lake in Belews Creek, in the northeast side of the Winston-Salem area.

The lake house was on a property owned and managed by an unidentified man. The nature of Brandee’s relationship with the man was unclear, but he gave the three siblings permission to live in a separate house.

According to her youngest sister, the man was not seen with a wife or any other woman, but there was a room in the house connected to his garage that was full of women’s clothing, shoes, and pocketbooks.

Brandee and her sisters stayed in the lake house for a while before they were eventually returned to a custodial parent in May or early June 2006 after child protective services was notified. Brandee returned to live with her daughters in Mocksville for a short time afterward.

Authorities were unable to identify the lake house since they didn’t have the address, and are unsure if the house is related to Brandee’s disappearance.

How can you wait four years to report someone missing.
I’m guessing this poor woman had a very sketchy upbringing and no one really cared she was missing.
Not much authorities can search often 4 years.
