The body of 57 year old Leonard Mercury was recovered from Crystal Lake in Gardner, Massachusetts yesterday. No further details have been released at this time.
Mercury was last seen on October 31, 2025, after escaping from Heywood Hospital where he had been placed under a psychiatric hold.
The investigation into his death remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police and the Gardner Police Department.

The Disappearance of Leonard Mercury
At approximately 2:00 am on October 31, 2025, Leonard Mercury broke out of Heywood Hospital in Gardner, Massachusetts.
Mercury had been taken to the hospital the night before following an argument with his wife, and was placed under a psychiatric hold.
Leonard broke through a window hospital, climbed out onto the roof, and jumped from the second floor before fleeing into the woods by a nearby bike path.
He was wearing light blue scrubs with no shoes, and did not have any of his personal belongings with him. He hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
Leonard is in need of serious medical attention and may be disoriented. Authorities say he may be using the name Leonard Cummins or John Cummins.
Investigation
There have been no confirmed sightings of Leonard since he entered the woods, nor has there been any financial activity on his accounts.
Multiple searches of the area have been conductedm with K9s tracking his scent to a nearby lake, but searches of the water produced no further evidence.
A week after he disappeared his wife hired a private investigator to help with the case. The investigator chased down several leads, including possible sightings of Leonard at Stop & Shop and Ollie’s Bargain Outlet in Worcester.
One witness claims to have seen a man matching his description asking for money and living in the woods.
