Montgomery County authorities have found the body of Allisha Watts in the area of Norman, a small town along Interstate 74. The 39 year old was last seen at her boyfriend’s house in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 16, 2023.
Her boyfriend, James Dunmore, has been taken into custody and arrested for murder.
Two days after she disappeared, Dunmore was found alone in Allisha’s vehicle. He was parked at a DMV in Anson County, about 40 miles southeast of Charlotte. Dunmore initially told police he was taking a nap, but when police returned they found him unresponsive.
A search warrant states he tried to commit suicide before being found in Watts’ car.
At the time of her disappearance, Allicia Watts was living in a home on Foxtail Lane in Jackson Springs, North Carolina.
She had been in a relationship with James Dunmore for one year, and would often travel to Charlotte for the weekend to visit him, as well as her relatives and friends.
She is the CEO of Inspired Visions Support Services, a mental health company which provides disability services to persons of all ages in several North Carolina counties.
The Disappearance of Allisha Watts
On July 14, 2023, Allisha Watts traveled to Charlotte for the weekend to visit her boyfriend, James Dunmore, which is about a two-hour drive from her home.
On July 16, 2023, Allisha was last seen leaving her boyfriend’s residence on Pamela Lorraine Drive in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The couple had plans to attend a comedy show with friends at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte that evening. Allicia never made it to the show and hasn’t been heard from since.
On July 18, 2023, her vehicle, a 2023 black Mercedes Benz GLC 300, was found parked at a Department of Motor Vehicles office in Anson County, about 40 miles southeast of Charlotte.
James Dunmore, who was found alone inside the car, initially told police that he was taking a nap. When police returned three hours they found Dunmore unresponsive. He was taken to an area hospital.
A search warrant states that he tried to commit suicide before being found in Watt’s car. Authorities have not released any further information on his condition.
Authorities had Allicia’s car towed to the Chalotte-Mecklenburg police department so it could be searched for evidence.
Investigation
Allicia’s cell phone was later found at her boyfriend’s residence, and her purse was inside her car.
Authorities searched Dunmore’s home and found shell casings from a 9 mm gun along the street in front of his home.
Court records show that James Dunmore had a domestic violence order filed against him in May 2023 by a woman in Durham County for alleged abuses that happened in March 2023 and before.
Dunmore has a criminal history in Virginia dating back to 2003 that includes convictions for assault, battery and kidnapping. He spent five years in prison after an abduction conviction and was sentenced to 15 years of probation.
