Case Information

55 year old Barbara Bolick was last seen in Corvallis, Montana on July 18, 2007. She disappeared while hiking in the Bear Creek Overlook trail area.

Disappearance

Around 9:00 am on July 18, 2007, Barbara Bolick left her home in Corvallis, Montana to go for a hike with a friend of her husband’s cousin, Jim Ramaker, who was visiting from California.

Since they had all been up late the night before, neither the cousin or Barbara’s husband felt like joining them for the hike.

The pair headed to Bear Creek Overlook in the Bitterroot Mountains, a place Barbara went to often. According to Ramaker, they stopped at the overlook for a snack around 11:30 am.

They stayed at the overlook for about 30 minutes before starting the hike back down. He says he turned around to take in the view one last time (for about 45 seconds), and when he looked back Barbara was gone.

She hasn’t been seen since.

Ramaker walked back down and asked a Forest Service crew if they had seen her; they had not so they all began looking for her. They went back to Ramaker’s car, but she wasn’t there either.

After 90 minutes of searching without any luck, they called a ranger to report her missing.

Investigation

An extensive search of the area was conducted with the help of search dogs and volunteers, but no further clues as to Barbara’s whereabouts have been found.

Police attempted to locate two other hikers as potential witnesses, both men in their early twenties who were accompanied by a black & white dog with floppy ears (possibly a Collie). They were seen hiking in the area around the time Barbara went missing.

One of the men is described as being dark skinned with black hair, and the other had a medium complexion with reddish hair. They may have been driving a light colored older model Chevy Blazer with Missoula County, Montana plates.

Jim Ramaker cooperated with authorities and has not been named a suspect in her disappearance.

According to Barbara’s husband, she was scared of heights and would not have gone near the edge of the overlook or left the trail, as she was an experienced hiker.

It is not believed Barbara left on her own accord, as she left all of her personal belongings behind at home, including her dog, cat, wallet, identification and passport.
