State police recently searched the former home of Connie Ruddy in part of the ongoing investigation into her disappearance more than 25 years ago.
Connie, a 21 year old mother of two, was reported missing from her home on February 10, 1997. Her 2 year old daughter and 3 month old son were found alone inside the residence, unharmed.
In 1999 a man looking for fossils found a jawbone on the Boyer River sandbar near Dow City. The jawbone was recently identified as belonging to Connie through DNA testing.
On October 9, 2025, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation along with local law enforcement searched her former home, located at 305 Burns Street in Ida Grove. During the search several items were taken for further analysis.
The investigation into Connie’s disappearance remains active.
“Despite the nearly 29-year time lapse, searchers were able to identify and seize several items of interest from the now vacant home. The items were taken to the DCI Laboratory for advanced forensic analysis,” the DCI states.
