Authorities have arrested Luke Douglas Jr. in connection with the disappearance of Lashaunda Spurlock.
The arrest comes after human remains were found in a trash can at the Bennettsville apartment complex where Douglas lives last week. It may take weeks for DNA testing to confirm the identity. The clothes Lashaunda was last seen wearing were also found during the investigation.
Douglas has been charged with desecration of human remains, and is believed to be the last person to have been with Lashaunda before she disappeared on April 29, 2024.
According to police, Douglas admitted to concealing the victim’s remains in a storage area within the apartment complex where he lived before disposing of the body in the trash can where it was found.
Lt. Hall with the Bennettsville Police Department said the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be filed against Douglas. He is currently being held at the Marlboro County Detention center pending a bond hearing.
