David Knezevich, the Florida businessman accused of kidnapping his wife Ana Knezevich back in February, has been charged with her murder.
On Wednesday, a federal grand jury in south Florida charged Knezevich with kidnapping resulting in death, foreign domestic violence resulting in death, and foreign murder of a U.S. national.
According to the indictment, Knezevich traveled to Spain from Miami “with the intent to kill, injure, harass, and intimidate his spouse and intimate partner and committed a crime of violence against her, resulting in her death.”
If convicted he could face the death penalty. He is currently being held without bond.
The Disappearance of Ana Knezevich
Ana María Knezevich Henao was born on May 26, 1983 in Colombia. She is a naturalized US citizen and resident of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
In December 2023, Ana went on a trip to Spain for a fresh start as she was going through a stressful time with a divorce from her husband of 13 years, 36 year old David Knezevic.
The couple own EOX Technology Solutions Inc, a computer support company in South Florida. They also own three properties in Fort Lauderdale.
Ana was staying in an apartment building in the Salamanca district, northeast of the historical center of Madrid, Spain at the time of her disappearance. In January 2024, she briefly traveled with a friend to Austria.
Disappearance

Around 10:00 pm on February 2, 2024, Ana María Knezevich Henao was last seen by neighbors at the apartment building where she was staying during her visit to Madrid, Spain.
Ana never returned back home, and hasn’t been heard from since. She previously told a friend during an hour long phone conversation that night that she intended to stay at home due to the cold weather.
On February 4, 2024, Madrid authorities performed a welfare check at her apartment, but Ana was nowhere to be found. Nothing was found amiss, and the apartment was locked from the outside.
On February 5, 2024, Ana was supposed to take a train to meet a Spanish friend in Barcelona but never showed up.
Investigation
Around 9:30 pm on February 2, 2024, surveillance cameras inside Ana’s apartment building captured a suspicious man wearing a motorcycle helmet spray painting the surveillance cameras near the elevator.
On February 3, 2024, two friends received separate text messages, one in English and one in Spanish, from Ana’s cell phone. The Spanish message was reportedly written in a different dialect than how Ana usually speaks, according to her family.
The messages claimed she was running off for a few days with a man she had just met, with plans to travel to a summer house located about two hours away from Madrid where the phone service would be spotty.
“I met someone wonderful!! He has a summer house 2H (hours) from Madrid,” one of the messages read. “We are going there now and I will spend a few days there. Signal is spotty. I’ll call you when I get back.”
Ana never responded after those text messages and her cell phone was subsequently turned off. Her friends and family say she would never run off with a man whom she had just met.
Ana’s husband who she was going through a divorce with, David Knezevic, is cooperating with authorities in his wife’s disappearance. He was traveling to his home country of Serbia at the time and has not been named a person of interest in the investigation.
Ana’s Husband Arrested
On May 6, 2024, David Knzezevic was detained at Miami International Airport “for his alleged relationship with the disappearance of his wife.”
Authorities believe that Knezevich flew from Miami to Istanbul on January 27, and rented a Peugeot 308 in Serbia on January 29. They say he then drove to Spain to kidnap his estranged wife.
